It’s A Self-Care Fall
I love it here. Fall that is.
I love the crisp feeling in the air. The changing of leaves. The sea of boots taking over the streets. And for my Black girls, the silk presses reclaiming its throne.
One of my favorite things about the fall season is going to a coffee shop and sipping my favorite fall drink. I’m partial to pumpkin spice anything— coffee, matcha, and chai. But I do enjoy apple crisp as well. Whether I’m working or journaling, sipping my favorite drink at a coffee shop is a form of self-care.
I’ll put on my favorite tunes, which is most likely an R&B song and I zone out. I’m currently at a coffee shop right now listening to D’Angelo, RIP. I’ve always loved his music, but it wasn’t until college that I began to really appreciate his music.
One album that reminds me of fall is Amerie’s first album, All I Have. I know that’s a crazy take considering that her lead song, “Why Don’t We Fall In Love,” is a summer anthem. But listening to that album reminds me of a fall day in NYC. I picture myself walking along colorful tree-lined streets passing by charming brownstones. For me, it’s perfection.
Living in the south, the fall is still pretty warm at times, but I don’t let it stop me from embracing the season. I’ll continue feeding my delusions with thoughts of cool breezes and nutmeg.
If coffee shops aren’t your thing, here’s some other ways to participate in a self-care fall.
Grab a blanket and curl up under a tree with your favorite book or journal.
Attend a fall festival and try all the delicious food and drinks such as apple cider.
Give yourself a pumpkin facial or try a pumpkin body scrub.
Fill your home with fall scents like cinnamon or apple.
Take a nature walk and revel in the views.
