Why I Became A Life Coach
These last couple of years have been beautiful, yet incredibly challenging. Before that, I was looking for a change. I’ve always been interested in self-care and holistic living, but it seemed the older I got, the more I was being pulled in that direction.
Simultaneously, I was trying to get over a situationship and find love, so I began reading the book, Calling In The One, by Katherine Woodward Thomas. While the book explained how you can attract love in seven weeks, I didn’t find that to be my story. However, it did reintroduce me to journaling.
I’ve been a writer all my life. From writing poems to writing songs, and then growing up to become a journalist. The write life was always meant for me, but I was never the girl who kept a diary. I never journaled. I tried, but I just didn’t get it. However, after reading Calling In The One, I developed the practice and haven’t looked back since.
At the end of most chapters was an assignment and that assignment was usually journaling. I’ll admit, I wasn’t interested at first. I sometimes would rush through it, but overtime, I appreciated it. Once I finished the book, I kept journaling and that led me to start, The Self-Care Writer in 2024. I wanted to provide journaling products like journals and journal prompts as well as candles and coffee mugs to help set the mood for the self-care practice.
The following year, in 2025, I decided to host monthly events based around journaling and other self-care practices. However, when hosting these events, sometimes emotions would arise. Whether it was tears being shed or people reliving trauma, I was creating spaces for attendees to be vulnerable. For that reason, I decided it was time to get certified in life coaching.
I wanted to continue holding safe spaces for others, but I didn’t have the professional training to deal with the emotions of attendees. Yes, I've been in emotional situations, but being the leader in the room, I wanted to know how to lead with others feeling seen and heard. So I opted for Koya Webb’s Lifestyle Design Coaching Program.
I knew this particular life coaching program was perfect for me because she taught us about using holistic practices such as breathwork and meditation to assist clients. I was already operating in the holistic space by using journaling and sound baths in my events, so it was a match made in heaven. I’ve learned so much in the program and I’m implementing what I have learned into my events as well as my 1:1 coaching.
